A Catholic can be defined as a baptised Christian – a follower of Jesus Christ – who
- accepts and belives what the Catholic Church believes and teaches.
- worships God with other Catholics, using the Catholic forms of worship (the Eucharist and the other sacraments).
- accepts the pastoral leadership of the Pope and the bishop of the diocese.

The best way for a person to decide whether or not to become a Catholic, or to return to the Catholic Church after some time of separation, is to start attending Mass in the parish church. By getting to know the parish worshipping community, and discovering the opportunities there to learn and discuss matters of faith, a decision can be made about whether to commit to Church membership.
